Nabal Avocado Guatemalan B flower type
There is reason to believe that this fruit will not do well in Homestead. This is one of the old Guatemalan varieties introduced by F. W. Popenoe, USDA from Antigua Guatemala, in the early 1900's. This is at 5000 ft elevation. Some of the reports indicate it had good history in Central Florida. It can probably handle the cold if it comes from a 5000 elevation. It is reported that it alternated bears with decent production every 2-3 years. I'm going to top work a tree and see when it flowers in So. Florida. It is reported to be high quality fruit.
I have a small tree and expect to top work a tree in early 2014.
February 4, 2014. A tree has been top worked today it is sharing space with two other varieties since I has running out of trees this year.
March 3, 2015: The Nabal branches are showing no signs of flowering so far.
