Originated in Vista, California, by E.R. Mullen. Introduced in 1932. Season at Santa Barbara, Ca., from Mar. to Nov.; season at Vista, Ca., from Feb. to July. Frost resistant. Does better on coast. Skin russets badly in interior areas. Raised bumps on skin are a bright green. Skin is medium thin. Has excellent flavor. This is what the University of California says:

A tree has been top worked in December 2013
March 12, 2014: The tree grafted in December 2013, is doing well and growing.
May 30, 2015: The tree did well for its first flowering. It set a few fruit.
September 19, 2015: This tree did set a lot of fruit. I picked the one in today's picture to see if it ripens well. It was 8.7 oz. and 4.4 inches long so I think it may have some to go.
