Joey Avocado B type
This Joey tree was top worked about 11 month ago in February 2014. Its sharing space with other 2 varieties. Will probably get its own tree next year. Since it is an early flowering B type and that is my interest at the moment.
January 24, 2015: Joey is opening flowers.
May 20, 2015: This tree sharing space did set some fruit. The only problem is that they are now turning black and they are only a a few ounces, 3 to be exact. Seems like the fruit is not going to grow bigger in this area. Have not tasted it so far. Do not see much use for it except as a possible pollinator.
August 28, 2015: I see no value to this tree. I'm not sure why this is even mentioned. There is one fruit still hanging in the tree under 3 oz. I tasted a couple but not even the taste is decent. I will probably discontinue coverage of this. The Monte de Oro has the same characteristics because is pure Mexican with slightly larger fruit. Also very early fruit, again if you need an early pollinator but other wise I would not grow either.
July 13, 2016: The tree is a lot bigger, Seems to be very productive. Same as my last entry very small fruit not worth it for me to grow. I hear is cold hardy but even in cold hardy weather not sure such mall fruit is worth to grow. The fruit I picked today was 3.8 oz and that is about the standard size. This will be the last entry.
May 30, 2017: I just want to add that the experience with the Joey is not limited to So. Florida I heard from David in Orlando who said: Hi, I read your post about the Joey Avocado. I live in Orlando and have the exact same results you described. I wish I had found you before I bought this.
