Inverted Bark Graft.

Picture
Inverted bark graft about 6 month after procedure.
On and off I have read about inverted bark grafts to accomplish a number of things;  early flowering of seedlings, dwarfing of the root stock to keep trees small. There is in fact very little information about this process involving avocado trees. I started the process on an avocado seedlings and made a video of the process on October 2012  and a second video on December 2012, you can see them both below. Rather than continue doing videos I can do more frequent updates here.
Also about the same time I was doing this,  Mauricio from Uruguay has been doing the same experiments as he has a particular interest in getting his seedlings to flower and bear fruit. Both grafts  look the same. You can see his pictures in the Forum pages.
My tree went on the ground March 2013.  I felt that keeping it in a pot would not give me a fear assessment of the processes. In this page I will do frequent follow up of the process and hopefully Mauricio will contribute as well. If you have done this before or are doing it I would love to hear about your experience.
So far you can clearly see an increase in diameter of the area above the inversion.  This increase has been going on since the procedure was done,  I'm not sure if it will stop. There are growth flushes, but these are not very strong with the stronger being above the inversion. All the shoots bellow have been eliminated.  I will let the tree settle down in the ground an in about May I will take detailed  measurements of the tree and continue with the updates..
May 4, 2013. The tree is dead.
